STEP 2: CREATE AN ONLINE MARKETING MESSAGE

When you hear the words "the choice of a new generation", chances are good you know what is being referred to. Likewise, when you hear "Just do it." These are marketing messages, they're not just handy jingles to fill commercial time, and they often become synonymous with the product, or even supersede the product themselves. Look at "two all beef patties, special sauce lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun" – the song McDonalds used in the 80’s to sell Big Macs. Even today, children of that era know those words by heart, and they have since entered the popular culture to continue marketing the product long after the company stopped paying for ad time.

No matter what you're selling, you need a specific marketing message that will be dangled before your customer. Imagine your café with the words "Sip into something more comfortable" painted on the window. Imagine an insurance company with the words "Less expensive, more flexible, with no fine print." What about an online DVD rental company that pushes the words, "No late fees… ever."

Your marketing message gives life to your business name, and also compels a potential customer to taking the next step. It should calm their fears, sell your strengths, tell them what you're selling, and be catchy enough to remember for days. When your marketing message is strong, your sales will follow.
